NFS background mount (bg option) in fstab times out by default

Issue

  • An NFS mount in /etc/fstab using the bg option stops retrying in the background before network connectivity is restored even though hard option is specified.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8
  • NFSv3 (vers=3)
