How can I test whether a new set of TDB files solves a problem in samba or winbind without losing the original TDB files?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • Many of Samba's daemons and utilities cache their data in local cache database files to improve performance by not having to constantly retrieve the same data from the network. On Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems, these files are usually located in the /var/cache/samba directory. While there are many different filenames in this directory, all of the cache files have ".tdb" as filename extensions. Therefore these are commonly referred to within the Samba community as "the TDB files" or ".tdb files".

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
