Discover what's new in Red Hat Insights (August and September 2022)

Updated -

Red Hat Insights is a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) application included with most subscriptions to Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat OpenShift, and Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform. Powered by predictive analytics, Red Hat Insights gets smarter with every additional piece of intelligence and data. It can automatically discover relevant, insightful data, and recommend tailored, proactive next actions, and even automate monitoring and remediation tasks.

Learn more about what's new in Red Hat Insights services for August and September of 2022:

  • Advisor: The advisor service added numerous new rules, including a kernel panic hashtab rule and an rsyslog Max Open Files rule. Kernel panic can occur when a file on a NFSv4 filesystem is opened by multiple processes concurrently due to a kernel bug, or when there is a hashtabs allocation failure.

  • Advisor pathways: The recommended pathways feature in the advisor service is now available in the console. The most impactful pathways are highlighted on the advisor main page, along with a new pathways tab in the recommendations table.

  • Malware detection (beta): Yara RPMs are now included in the RHEL beta appstream for both the RHEL v8.7 and RHEL v9.1 beta releases.

  • Patch: System package views now support the display of third-party package updates. Third-party packages are defined as any package from a repository that is not on the Red Hat CDN. This could include vendor repositories, custom RPM repositories, or locally synced and renamed Red Hat repositories.

  • Remote Host Configuration (rhc): When you unregister an Insights client using the insights-client command, the machine-id file is now removed to prevent duplication scenarios.

  • Notifications: The malware (beta) and cost management services are now triggering Insights events when malware is detected, and when cost management identifies stale data (the operator did not send data for more than seven days). A notification is also generated when there is an OpenShift source with no assigned cost model.

  • Integrations: Integration events that fail for 10 consecutive attempts or return a client error are disabled, and a new integrations disabled event is triggered from the integrations service. The disabled event results in an email notification that goes to the organization administrator of the account.

  • Splunk integration (service preview): From the console settings (gear icon), switch to the beta view and try out the preview of the Splunk integration. Additional events are now handled in the events table (for malware, patch, and vulnerability) and the Splunk dashboard also has a new security section.

  • Resource Optimization: The resource optimization service creates an Insights event when new optimization suggestions are available. The email notification includes a link so that you can view the new suggestions.
