Features

The following are the major features of Red Hat Network Release 5.2.0.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 Support

In the future, MD5 cannot be used to identify content. Therefore, we have made changes to allow RPMs to be identifiable by checksums other than MD5. The current changes support MD5, SHA-1 and SHA-256 checksums. Newly created channels can indicate the Checksum Method and the RPM Checksum Method.

Packages and downloadable content will potentially have multiple kinds of checksums available. Existing packages have MD5 sums already; part of the conversion process will be to compute SHA-256 checksums for them as well.

Checksum Method

Channel.preferredChecksum property affects checksum method choice for repodata generation. For custom channels, the preferred checksum method can be defined on Custom Channel Creation page. It can not be edited afterwards, on purpose. For RHN channels, the preferred checksum is expected to be supplied together with other channel metadata at channel creation time. All existing channels (both custom and RHN) will have the preferred checksum pre-filled with SHA-1. For RHN channels, the channel checksum method is viewable on the Channel Details page.

RPM Checksum Method

Channel.preferredRpmChecksum property affects checksum method choice for identifying RPMs in channel metadata. For custom channels, the preferred RPM checksum method can be defined on Custom Channel Creation page. It can not be edited afterwards, on purpose. For existing channels, the default value is the MD5 checksum. For RHN channels, the channel checksum method is viewable on the Channel Details page.

Flex Guest Modification

Flex Guest has been updated to support more Hypervisors. The list of host-types valid for Flex Guest consumption has been updated to include guests running under VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, Hitachi Virtage and arbitrary Xen/KVM/QEMU hosts.
