Red Hat Customer Portal: What's New on August 24, 2013

Updated -

We're pleased to announce the following enhancements to our Customer Portal included with our update published on August 24, 2013. These features, along with numerous bug fixes and minor enhancements, are now available to all users.

New Navigation Experience

We have redesigned our top-level navigation structure to make it even easier to find exactly what you are looking for—whether you are planning, deploying, maintaining, or troubleshooting your Red Hat products. For details and a tour of the new navigation structure, please see the Red Hat Customer Portal: New Navigation FAQ.

New and Improved Product Pages

We have added a product page for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, which complements the other existing product pages you can find in the new Products navigation tab. This page acts as a launching pad for more information, knowledge, and support for the various types of Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems that our customers are interested in, such as Linux Desktop.

We also made enhancements to the Red Hat Virtualization product page. For example, based on feedback from our customers, we added a prominent Get Started section to help new Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization customers get up and running more quickly and easily.

Additional Community Enhancements

Our new Discussions area launched in our previous release, and we are continuing to improve the community experience within the Customer Portal. Here are some new things you'll notice:

  • Basic user profiles are visible to all logged in, entitled users. This profile access serves as a foundation for further profile enhancements (social links, user bios, etc.).
  • Reputation points can be earned from interactions on all Knowledge content. With this release, you can gain reputation points by commenting or rating on Discussions as well as Solutions, videos, etc.
  • Improved Discussions search. Discussions are now part of the search/browse feature and are also included as a search facet when performing a basic portal search.
  • Banner for the soon-to-be-archived Red Hat Groups community. There is now a banner in the public groups area highlighting the fact that groups will be read-only and encouraging users to collaborate in our new Discussions.

General Enhancements

  • Better time presentation. Dates in the Knowledgebase now reflect users' timezones and use a more socially oriented format (e.g., "seconds ago," "minutes ago"). This updated format ends after a week and then returns to a standard format. Search results also contain a better presentation of time.
  • Portal performance enhancements. Some initial improvements are being made with this release to improve the speed of portal page loading and searches. For example, you might notice solutions and articles loading a bit faster.
  • Search/browse improvements. You can now filter Solutions and Articles by component, as well as videos by category.
